Diagnosis

The physiatrist employs conventional diagnostic tools - medical histories, physical examinations, and medical imaging studies (X-Ray, CT, MRI), as well as special techniques in electrodiagnostic medicine, including electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS).

Treatment & Definitive Documentation

Once the diagnosis has been made, the physiatrist custom-designs a treatment plan to be executed by a multidisciplinary team. This team typically includes a combination of healthcare professionals: physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, and pain management specialists. As patients advance through their treatment programs, the overseeing physiatrist carefully measures improvement, makes adjustments when necessary, and meticulously documents patient
progress from beginning to end.

Additionally, as reports from outside specialists are received, the physiatrist will be there to address all of the questions and concerns that may arise upon review of the specialists’ recommendations. In doing so, physiatrists put their patients at ease and give them the assurance they need to follow through with all the treatment recommendations.
